About Mur de Huy
The Mur de Huy is the stretch of road that climbs from the south of Huy's center up to the La Sarte plain. It is known in the cycling world as the finish of the Flèche Wallonne, a spring race that passes the climb more than once and finishes at the top. At the steepest bend, called the Claudy Criquielion bend, the gradient reaches about 26%.
The climb starts along the avenue du Condroz and continues along the narrow Chemin des Chapelles, about 800 metres, the steepest section. Along it are the chapels of the pilgrimage route to Notre-Dame de la Sarte, protected as heritage, where pilgrims stop in procession.
At the top is the sanctuary of Notre-Dame de la Sarte and, nearby, the Mont Mosan amusement park and the top station of the cable car. The view opens onto the Mosa valley.
Walking up takes about 20 to 30 minutes, with some effort. Many amateur cyclists come to test their legs on the same section used in the race.
