About Rochers de Freÿr
The Rochers de Freÿr form a set of limestone cliffs on the right bank of the Meuse (Mosa), between Waulsort and Anseremme, opposite the Château de Freÿr. It is the largest rock formation in Belgium and is part of Wallonia's heritage.
There are seven main cliffs and several secondary ones, with names like Mérinos, Tête du Lion and Louis-Philippe. The variety of faces makes Freÿr one of the country's most sought-after climbing spots, with routes of many grades.
For non-climbers the main attraction is the view. From above, near the N95 road that climbs from Dinant toward Beauraing, viewpoints open onto the bend of the Meuse, the castle and the gardens. Walking trails, such as the GR 126, pass through the area.
Climbing is practiced by clubs and by experienced climbers with their own equipment; those who want to try can contact the sport companies in the Dinant region.
