Approximate road distances. Check flights and bus schedules before you travel.
Confirm before buying. The Knokke and Heist stations receive trains from Bruges in about 20 minutes, and the Kusttram's eastern terminal is near Knokke station. By car, the N34 runs along the coast to De Panne, and Bruges is about 25 minutes away.
How many days
One day is enough for the Zwin, the seafront and the streets of Het Zoute. With an extra day you'll have time for the galleries, the museum in Heist and bike rides across the polders to the Holanda.
When to go
On the beach the season usually runs from June to September, with July and August busiest. The Zwin and the galleries are also worth visiting from October to May, when the town is quieter. Migratory birds pass through the Zwin mainly in spring and autumn.
The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.
Do you need a car?
No. The train links Knokke and Heist to Bruges, the Kusttram runs along the coast, and the town has many cycle paths, including routes to the Zwin and the Holanda.

What is the Zwin?
It is a former sea inlet, today a tidal nature area between Bélgica and the Holanda. The Belgian part is the Zwin Natuur Park, the country's first nature reserve, created in 1952.
What is Het Zoute?
It is the most upscale neighborhood of Knokke, with villas set in gardens, luxury shops and art galleries.
Can you cycle to the Holanda?
Yes. Cycle paths leave Knokke and pass through the Zwin to the Dutch villages on the border, such as Retranchement and Cadzand.
What language is spoken in Knokke-Heist?
Flemish. Many people also speak French and English.
Is Knokke-Heist a day trip from Bruges?
Yes. The train takes about 20 minutes.
