About Noosa National Park
Noosa National Park occupies the Noosa Heads headland and extends along the coast to Sunshine Beach. The area was reserved in 1879 and became a national park in 1939. It is one of Queensland’s most visited parks, with more than a million visits a year.
The main entrance is at the end of Hastings Street, a few minutes’ walk from Noosa’s main beach. Eight trails start there; the most popular is the coastal track, which follows the sea past coves, small beaches and lookouts to Hell's Gates, a cliff face above the ocean, and then continues to Alexandria Bay and Sunshine Beach.
The park has eucalyptus forests, coastal scrub and wet forest areas. A population of koalas lives there and can sometimes be seen in the eucalypts near the trails, and from the lookouts it is common to see dolphins and, between June and October, humpback whales passing offshore.
The park’s beaches are not lifeguarded, and Alexandria Bay has strong currents. To swim, use Noosa’s main beach.
