About Mooloolaba Beach
Mooloolaba Beach lies between the Alexandra Headland promontory to the north and the mouth of the Mooloolah River to the south, sheltered by Point Cartwright. This position generally keeps the sea calmer than the open-coast beaches, making it popular with families.
Lifeguards patrol the bathing area, marked by flags. Facing the sand runs the Mooloolaba Esplanade, with shops, galleries, cafés and restaurants, and a seaside promenade that continues north to Alexandra Headland and Maroochydore.
At the southern tip, past the aquarium, are Mooloolaba Harbour and Wharf, from which fishing and pleasure boats depart and, between June and October, whale-watching tours run. Point Cartwright Lighthouse, on the other side of the river mouth, has a lookout over the coast.
On the Esplanade there is a memorial to Steve Irwin, the presenter associated with Australia Zoo.
