About Seal Bay Conservation Park
Seal Bay is a conservation area on Kangaroo Island’s south coast, about 55 km from Kingscote. The beach hosts one of the largest colonies of Australian sea lions, a species found only on the country’s southern and western coasts and with a small population.
The sea lions spend days at sea hunting and return to the beach to rest and nurse pups. On the sand they lie between the dunes and the surf, just meters from visitors.
A wooden boardwalk over the dunes leads to lookouts above the beach. To reach the sand, you must join the guided beach walk, in which park rangers take small groups close to the animals and explain the colony’s life.
The visit is paid, and the guided beach walk runs at scheduled times during the day; check the current timetable.
