About Double Island Point
Double Island Point is a rocky headland south of Rainbow Beach, in the Cooloola section of Great Sandy National Park. At the top stands a late 19th-century lighthouse, with views over the coast, the ocean and the beach that continues south.
On the north side of the headland, a protected bay forms a shallow, calm lagoon popular for swimming and paddling. From the lookout it’s common to see dolphins, rays and turtles and, between June and October, humpback whales offshore.
Access is along the beach by 4x4 from Rainbow Beach or Noosa at low tide, with a park vehicle permit. Organized 4x4 tours depart from Rainbow Beach.
A short trail climbs from the beach to the lighthouse.
