About Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village

The Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village recreates, by Warrnambool’s harbour, a 19th-century port town. Streets with shops, workshops, a church, a bank and period houses surround a harbour with old sailing vessels, beside two of the city’s original lighthouses.

The museum gathers items recovered from coastal shipwrecks, including the Minton porcelain peacock from the Loch Ard, which washed ashore intact in 1878. Exhibitions tell the story of the ships lost along the Shipwreck Coast.

At night, a sound-and-light show tells the story of the Loch Ard. There is an admission fee; check the current schedule.

The two lighthouses in the area, from the mid-19th century, still operate as navigation marks for the harbour entrance.
