About Cutta Cutta Caves
The Cutta Cutta Caves are in a nature park about 27 km south of Katherine along the Stuart Highway. They are limestone caves formed by water action over millions of years, in an area of limestone bedrock that extends beneath the savanna.
Visits are guided, in groups, along walkways and stairs inside the main cave. Limestone formations include stalactites, stalagmites and columns, and the cave houses bats of several species and other animals adapted to the dark.
The name Cutta Cutta comes from the Jawoyn language and is linked to the stars. The visitor area on the surface has information panels about the geology and wildlife.
