About Bowali Visitor Centre

The Bowali Visitor Centre is on the Kakadu Highway, a few kilometres from Jabiru. The long, low building with a metal roof and open walls for ventilation was designed by architect Glenn Murcutt, known for adapting buildings to the local climate.

The displays present the park from the perspective of the traditional owners, the Bininj and the Mungguy: the six seasons of the year, the relationship with land and water, and the animals and plants of the floodplains, the woodlands and the escarpment. There are also videos about the park’s history and mining in the region.

At the information desk, park rangers point out which roads and trails are open, the talks scheduled for the day and the seasonal conditions. It’s also where you can get questions answered about the park pass.

The centre has a café and an Aboriginal art shop.
