About Darwin Waterfront

The Darwin Waterfront is the waterfront leisure area, a few minutes’ walk from Smith Street in the center. Built over former port facilities, it includes lawns, plazas, restaurants, hotels and the pier where tour boats depart.

The Recreation Lagoon is a sea‑water lagoon protected by nets and barriers, where you can swim without crocodiles or jellyfish, with lifeguards during opening hours. Next to it, the Wave Lagoon is a pay‑to‑use wave pool popular with families.

An elevated boardwalk links the Waterfront to the center. In the late afternoon the foreshore is busy with people eating outdoors.

Nearby are a World War II fuel storage tunnel and the 1942 bombing memorial, reminders of the Japanese attack on the city.
