About Four Mile Beach

Four Mile Beach is Port Douglas’s main beach. The name recalls the length, about four miles, or six and a half kilometres, of flat light sand that begins at the foot of Flagstaff Hill, on the tip of the peninsula, and runs south with coconut palms and native scrub behind it.

At the northern end, close to the village, are the lifeguard station and the supervised swimming area. During the tropical jellyfish season, generally November to May, a protection net is installed in the sea and the lifeguards indicate where to swim. At low tide the sand becomes firm and wide, good for walking or cycling.

From the top of Flagstaff Hill, the Trinity Bay Lookout shows the whole beach and the Coral Sea. A short trail links the lookout to the foreshore.

The village is a few minutes on foot, with Macrossan Street, restaurants and shops.
