About Barron Falls

Barron Falls, called Din Din by the traditional owners, the Djabugay, are in Barron Gorge National Park, a few kilometres from Kuranda. The Barron River descends the escarpment in rock steps, with a total drop of about 125 m, down to the gorge that leads to the Cairns plain.

The flow varies greatly throughout the year. After heavy rains, usually between December and April, the water can cover the rock face and form a mist that reaches the lookouts. In the dry season, part of the river is diverted to a power station and the falls run thinner over the rock.

The Din Din Barron Falls Lookout walking track begins at the car park, about 3.5 km from Kuranda town centre along Barron Falls Road. It is an elevated boardwalk of about 1.2 km round trip that passes through the forest just below the canopy and reaches the lookouts and the train stop. The boardwalk has wheelchair access with assistance.

The falls are also visible from the Kuranda train stop and from the Barron Falls station on the Skyrail cableway.
