The city
Capital of the state of Miranda, at 1,169 meters altitude, in the mountains southwest of Caracas. Founded in 1777, it was a cool-climate refuge for families from Caracas. The center has Plaza Bolívar with the Catedral San Felipe Neri, the Casa Arturo Michelena and the Villa Teola, a 1912 summer house. The most widespread version says the tequeño was born here.
