About Sardes Örenyeri
Sardis is near Sart, in Manisa Province, and can be visited from İzmir. The city was the capital of Lydia and remained important in later periods. The complex is part of the recognized heritage together with the tombs of Bin Tepe, but the sites do not form a single compact area.
Among the visible sectors are remains of a baths and gymnasium complex, a synagogue and the sanctuary of Artemis. They are parts of different phases of occupation. The visit helps compare Lydian history with what was built and transformed after it.
Organize the sectors and transport before you leave, because arriving at one point does not mean everything is beside it. Bring water for the open areas and prefer the morning in summer. The tombs landscape may require a different route; do not expect to enter every funerary structure.
