About Kadifekale

Kadifekale occupies a hill above the center of İzmir and preserves traces of fortification. The position allows you to understand the relationship between the ancient city, the terrain and the bay. The visit has a landscape component as important as observing the remaining structures.

The walls and the terrain should not be interpreted as a residential castle with rooms set up for visiting. Circulation is through the permitted sectors, observing the remains and the viewpoints. The clarity of the panorama varies with air and light conditions.

The climb from the center involves elevation change; those who want to spare the walk can arrange transport to the upper area. Reserve the visit for a less hot period and check local access before you leave. Do not use the walls themselves as a path when there is no authorized passage.
