About Bergama Asklepionu
Pergamon’s Asclepion lies in the lower part of the Bergama area, outside the acropolis enclosure. It was a healing sanctuary dedicated to Asclepius and combined religious and medical practices of antiquity. The visible structures show a complex organized to receive and circulate people.
The approachway, the colonnades and the theater help make clear that the place was not just an isolated temple. The route makes sense when you observe the relationships between spaces, rather than trying to equate it directly with a modern hospital. The history of care should be read in its ancient context.
Book a separate visit and check the site’s ticketing. The terrain is open and requires water and sun protection, especially in summer. It can be combined with the acropolis on the same Bergama day, provided the ascent and transfers between enclosures are also planned.
