About Bergama Akropolü

The acropolis of Pergamon occupies the summit of Bergama and shows how the ancient city made use of a steep hill. Artificial terraces accommodated cult buildings and civic structures. The hillside theater is one of the elements that best illustrate this adaptation of the urban plan to the terrain.

The route reveals remains from different constructions and periods, with views over the town and the valleys. Do not expect to find on site all the pieces that were removed by historical excavations. The interest also lies in the placement of the buildings and the spaces that linked the terraces.

The walk involves changes in level and surfaces exposed to sun. Check access arrangements and the cable car's operation before relying on it. Allow a separate period for the Asclepion and the Red Basilica: they are not in the same upper enclosure, though they belong to Pergamon’s history.
