How many days
One day is enough for the town centre, the castle and Abbot Hall. Add another half day to visit Sizergh and Levens Hall. Kendal also serves as a base for excursions in the southern Lake District.
When to go
From May to September the days are long and temperatures typically range from 14 °C to 20 °C. Winter is cold and wet, between 1 °C and 7 °C. It rains quite a lot year-round. The historic houses of Sizergh and Levens Hall are usually open from spring through autumn.
The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.
Do you need a car?
Not for the town centre, which is walked. For Sizergh and Levens Hall, south of town, there are regional buses, but a car makes it easier to combine both in one day.
