Tufi – Oro

How to get there

  • Pista de Tufi (TFI) 1 km

Approximate distances. Check flights and bus, train or boat schedules before you travel.

Tufi’s airstrip receives small planes from Port Moresby, with frequency that varies by season; boats also connect along the coast. There is no road linking Tufi to Popondetta, the provincial capital.

How many days

Three to four days: one or two for diving or snorkeling, one for the canoe fiords and the village visit, and one spare day for weather or for the Black Jack.

When to go

Rain is heavier between December and April. From May to October, southeast wind can roughen the sea along parts of the coast. Diving occurs year-round, depending on daily conditions.

The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

Do you need a car?

No. Tufi is explored on foot, and tours are done by canoe and boat, arranged with the accommodation or village guides.
