About Truman Track

The Truman Track is one of the shortest and most popular walks in Paparoa National Park. It starts on Highway 6 north of Punakaiki and crosses a damp coastal forest of nikau palms, ferns and moss-covered trees down to the cliff edge.

At the end, a staircase descends to a stony beach surrounded by limestone walls. At low tide you can walk the beach, explore sea-carved caves and see the small waterfall that drops from the cliff onto the sand. At high tide the sea covers the beach and the upper viewpoint is the limit.

Interpretive panels along the way explain the vegetation and coastal formation. It’s a good short walk to combine with a visit to the Pancake Rocks, only minutes by car.
