When to go
From December to March, with long, warm days. In November and December, flowering lupins often color the shores. From April to September, nights are long and cold, good for stargazing. In winter it can snow in the village.
The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.
Do you need a car?
For Tekapo itself, no: the village is small. A car is helpful to continue to Aoraki/Mount Cook and Twizel and to reach Mount John, although there are long‑distance buses.
