Approximate road distances. Check flights and bus schedules before you travel.
Bajío Airport (BJX), in Silao, is about 30 km away, served by taxis and vans. From San Miguel de Allende it's about 90 km, an hour and a half by bus or car; from Mexico City it's around five hours by bus.
How many days
Two days for the historic center, the tunnels, viewpoints and museums; an additional half day for the mine and the church of La Valenciana.
When to go
From October to April, during the dry season. In October the Cervantino Festival fills the city; book in advance.
The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.
Do you need a car?
No. The center is small, with narrow streets and tunnels, and is explored on foot, by taxi or by bus.
