Echternach – Echternach

How to get there

  • Aeroporto de Luxemburgo-Findel (LUX) Findel · 30 km
  • Gare routière d'Echternach (estação rodoviária) 1 km

Approximate road distances. Check flights and bus schedules before you travel.

Check before booking. There is no train: from the capital, buses depart from Kirchberg and the centre and reach Echternach bus station in about 45 minutes to 1 hour, a 5-minute walk from the square. By car it's about 35 km via the motorway and the valley road. Public transport is free (except for first class on trains); check beforehand.

How many days

One day is enough for the basilica, the square, the ramparts and the garganta do Lobo. With two days, there's time for Berdorf, the Hohllay, the Schiessentümpel and Beaufort Castle, or for a full circuit of the Mullerthal Trail.

When to go

From April to October, for the trails and the Roman villa, which usually opens from late March to September. The dancing procession is on Whit Tuesday, between May and June, and the town becomes very crowded. In winter it's cold and the trails get wet; check opening times for places that close.

The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

Do you need a car?

No for the town, the garganta do Lobo and the lake, which are done on foot. Local buses go to Berdorf, Müllerthal and Beaufort, where the trails start. A car helps to see several spots in the same day. Park in the car parks at the town entrance; the centre is pedestrian.
