The destination, not the city

Most guides organize the trip by city. That works for those who have already chosen the place, and doesn't help those who are still deciding, because nobody dreams of a municipality: people dream of a landscape.

That's why the unit of this guide is the destination: a place that can cover several cities and is presented by what you can experience there. The Costa Verde is Angra dos Reis, Paraty and Mangaratiba together. The Lençóis Maranhenses are Barreirinhas, Santo Amaro and the villages in the middle of the dunes. In Belgium, Bruges and the coast bring together the city of canals, Damme and Ostend.

Where to start

There are three ways in, and all of them lead to the same place:

• Routes: trips by car or train that link several places, with the way, the stops and how many days to set aside, such as the Estrada Real or the Romantic Road.
• Destinations: the tourist region with its cities, for those who want to get to know a place without rushing.
• State, region, province or city: the usual way, for those who already know where they're going, down to the attraction.

How the content is made

The information on each place is researched in official sources, such as the country's and the cities' tourism offices, the parks and the attractions themselves, and checked before it goes live. Opening hours, schedules and prices change: that's why the guide asks you to confirm before you go.

The pictures in this guide are illustrations based on the real place, not photographs, and may differ from it. Photos sent by travelers appear separately, as travelers' photos. When a business appears under its own name, the information is theirs.

The guide can also be read in Portuguese and in Spanish. If you find any information that differs, write to us: fixing it is quicker than it seems.
