About Château de la Ferté-Saint-Aubin

The Château of La Ferté-Saint-Aubin stands at the northern entrance of the town of the same name, on the banks of the Cosson River, at the northern edge of the Sologne. There was once a medieval fortification on the site that controlled passage along the river; the present brick-and-stone building was mainly constructed in the 17th century, with two detached pavilions and an entrance over the moats.

The estate belonged to several families, including that of Marshal de Lowendal in the 18th century. In the early 20th century it was bought by a family who kept it by inheritance until 1987, when it passed to a new owner who restored it and opened it to the public.

The visit covers the furnished reception rooms, the bedrooms, the library and the kitchens, where there are sometimes demonstrations. The moats, bridges and the park of about 40 hectares, with woods and stretches along the Cosson, are also part of the route.

The château is protected as a historic monument, and the park is registered as well. It is a private property open to visitors, with events scheduled throughout the year.
