About Fondation Vincent van Gogh Arles

Van Gogh lived in Arles from February 1888 to May 1889 and painted some of his best-known works there, including Café Terrace at Night, The Langlois Bridge and the Sunflowers series. No paintings of his remained in the city. The Fondation Vincent van Gogh Arles was created to keep that link alive.

The foundation occupies a restored 15th-century mansion, the Hôtel Léautaud de Donines, near the Rhône. Exhibitions change throughout the year and usually include one or more works by the painter on loan from museums such as the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, together with works by artists who engage in a dialogue with him.

The building has a terrace with views over the roofs of Arles and a coloured glass skylight, as well as a bookshop. The programme includes talks, films and activities.

Because exhibitions change and there are installation periods between shows, it is worth checking what is on before your visit.
