About Jardin de l'Arquebuse
The Jardin de l'Arquebuse, formerly called Jardin des Sciences, covers more than 5 hectares behind the Dijon-Ville station. The name comes from the king's arquebusiers' company, which settled on the site in 1543. The botanical garden was established there in 1833.
It is an English-style garden, with statues, a small temple and a stream, the Raines, with swans and ducks. The botanical garden contains about 3,500 plant species from Burgundy and other parts of the world, as well as an arboretum with hundreds of trees and a rose garden.
In the old arquebusiers' building is the renovated Dijon natural history museum, which tells the story of life on Earth and biodiversity with fossils, taxidermy animals, models and multimedia exhibits. The park also has a planetarium, with shows in French.
It's a pleasant green break close to the center, especially for those traveling with children.
