How many days

Two days are enough for the cidadela, the cathedral with its astronomical clock, the Museu de Belas-Artes, the Museu do Tempo and the old town. With three days, you can visit the Saline Royale de Arc-et-Senans or take a boat trip around the Doubs bend.

When to go

From May to September, with long days and the river boats on the Doubs running. Autumn brings the colours of the surrounding forests. Winter is cold, with frosts and sometimes snow.

The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

Do you need a car?

A car is not necessary for the city: the centre is explored on foot and there are city buses up to the cidadela. For the Saline Royale there are regional trains to Arc-et-Senans station. A car is useful for the small towns and the Doubs gorges in the surroundings.
