Check before buying. Tossa de Mar has no train station. From Barcelona you go by intercity bus, which also serves the airport of El Prat, or by car. Girona-Costa Brava Airport (GRO) is about 40 km away. The bus station is in the upper part of town, about a 10-minute walk from the beach.

How many days

One day is enough for the Vila Vella, the lighthouse and an afternoon on the beach. Those wanting to relax on the Costa Brava can stay two or three days, alternating beach time and coastal drives. As a day trip from Barcelona it works better by car or if you check the bus schedules in advance.

When to go

The beach season runs from June to September, with warmer water in August and September. In July and August the village gets crowded. May, June and September are usually good for walking without intense heat. In winter, from December to February, many beach services close.

The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

Do you need a car?

If you stay in the village, you don't need a car: everything is within walking distance. Without a train, public transport access is only by bus. A car helps to visit other coves along the coast and to combine Tossa with Girona in the same day. In summer, parking near the beach is difficult.
