The city

What to expect from Tossa de Mar.

Coastal village on the Costa Brava, in the comarca da Selva, about 90 km from Barcelona by road. The postcard view is the Vila Vella, a medieval walled enclosure on the cabo de Tossa, with round towers and a lighthouse on top. At the foot of the walls is the Platja Gran, a beach of coarse pinkish sand. In the 1930s the village attracted painters such as Marc Chagall. Catalan and Spanish are spoken.
