From Belo Horizonte, follow BR-040 to the Paraopeba junction and then MG-231 to Cordisburgo; it's about 120 km. There are buses from Belo Horizonte Bus Station with few departures per day. From Sete Lagoas it's about 60 km.

One day is enough for Gruta de Maquiné in the morning and the Museu Casa Guimarães Rosa in the afternoon. Those attending an event linked to the writer may book an overnight stay in town.
When to go
All year round. From April to September there is little rain and days are stable; from November to March showers usually fall in the afternoon. The cave has a stable temperature and the museum is open at any time of year.

It helps. Gruta de Maquiné is a few kilometers from the center, and the bus from Belo Horizonte has few departures. In the town center, the museum and streets are walkable.
