About Gatineau Park
Gatineau Park begins a few kilometers from downtown Gatineau and stretches north across the region’s hills. It is managed by the National Capital Commission and features maple and pine forests, dozens of lakes and a network of trails.
The Champlain Lookout, atop the Eardley Escarpment, offers wide views of the Ottawa River valley. Pink, Meech and Philippe lakes are the most visited: Pink has green-blue water and a trail around it; Meech and Philippe have beaches. The Mackenzie King Estate preserves William Lyon Mackenzie King’s summer home and gardens; he served as prime minister for more than twenty years.
In autumn, the maples’ foliage draws large crowds on weekends. In winter, the park has cross-country ski and snowshoe trails. There is no park entrance fee; some beaches and parking lots charge during the season.
