About Museum of Civilization
The Musée de la civilisation is in the Basse‑Ville near the harbour, in a 1988 building by architect Moshe Safdie that incorporates old street houses and a monumental staircase. It is dedicated to history and human societies, with a focus on Quebec.
The permanent exhibition on the history of Quebec follows life in the province from New France to the present. Another exhibition presents the eleven Indigenous nations of Quebec, with objects, testimonies and contemporary art. The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions on varied themes.
