About Île d'Orléans
Île d’Orléans lies in the Saint Lawrence River just east of Quebec City and is connected to the mainland by a bridge near Montmorency Falls. It was one of the first areas settled by French colonists, and many Quebec families trace ancestors there.
A roughly 67‑km road circles the island and passes the six villages, such as Saint‑Pierre, Sainte‑Famille and Saint‑Jean, with stone churches, rural houses from the 18th and 19th centuries and views of the river and the Charlevoix mountains. The whole area is a protected heritage site.
The island is known for its farm products: strawberries in early summer, apples in autumn, blackcurrants, cider, wine and maple syrup, sold at roadside stands and farms. Many open for pick‑your‑own and tasting in the warm months.
