About Montmorency Falls
Montmorency Falls is where the Montmorency River plunges from the plateau to the Saint Lawrence River, about 12 km from downtown Quebec City. At roughly 83 meters it is higher than Niagara Falls, though much narrower.
The Sépaq park around the falls has two levels connected by a cable car. Below are the parking area, picnic zone and the base of the falls; above are Manoir Montmorency, a historic house with a lookout, and the suspension bridge that crosses directly above the falls. A stairway of about 450 steps descends the slope beside the water, offering a frontal view.
In summer a zip line runs over the canyon and there are climbing routes with cables. In winter the mist freezes and forms a cone of ice at the base of the falls, known as the pain de sucre. Park entry is charged; the cable car and activities are also paid separately.
