About Royal Tyrrell Museum (Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology)
The Royal Tyrrell Museum is about 6 km from downtown Drumheller, set into the badlands slopes of the Red Deer River valley. It is named after Joseph Burr Tyrrell, the geologist who found a carnivorous dinosaur skull there in 1884, later named Albertosaurus.
The galleries trace the history of life on Earth and hold one of the largest collections of mounted dinosaur skeletons in the world, including tyrannosaurs, triceratops and hadrosaurs, many discovered in Alberta. One of the best-known pieces is a nodosaur preserved with skin and armor, one of the most complete dinosaur “mummies” ever found.
Through a window you can see the lab where technicians clean and prepare fossils. In summer there are guided activities, such as fossil digs and badlands walks, which require booking. There is an admission fee; check the current rates.
