About Takakkaw Falls
Takakkaw Falls is in Yoho Valley, about 17 km from Field, and is one of Canada’s highest waterfalls. The water comes from melt of Daly Glacier and plunges roughly 254 meters in a free fall, about 373 meters in total. The name comes from a Cree word often translated as “magnificent.”
A flat, paved trail leads from the parking lot to the base of the falls, where the spray soaks visitors who come close. From the same point longer trails go into Yoho Valley and to the Iceline, with glacier views.
The road to the falls has very tight curves and does not accommodate trailers or large vehicles. It is generally open from mid‑June to mid‑October, depending on snow and avalanche risk. There is no fee beyond the national parks pass.
