About Banff Gondola
The Banff gondola departs from the base of Sulphur Mountain, a few kilometers from town, and rises about 700 meters in roughly 8 minutes. The glass-enclosed cabins reach the summit, around 2,280 meters, with views of six mountain ranges, the town of Banff, and the Bow River valley.
At the top there is a building with viewpoints, restaurants, and an exhibition about the mountains. A wooden boardwalk of about 1 km follows the ridge to Sanson Peak, where the old weather station and the early 20th-century cosmic ray research site are located. Bighorn sheep sometimes appear near the boardwalk.
The gondola operates year-round, with occasional maintenance closures. It’s also possible to hike up via a trail of about 5.5 km. The gondola requires paid tickets; check the current price list.
