About Banff Upper Hot Springs
Banff’s hot springs are at the origin of the national park. The Upper Hot Springs are on the slope of Sulphur Mountain at about 1,585 meters elevation and are the highest hot springs in Canada. The water rises naturally heated and is maintained in the pool at around 37 to 40 °C.
The outdoor pool overlooks Mount Rundle and the valley. The 1932 bathhouse is a federal historic building and has exhibits about the springs’ history and the water’s composition, which is rich in sulfate and calcium.
It is managed by Parks Canada and operates year-round, with maintenance closures. In winter, the contrast between snow and the steam draws many visitors. Admission is paid; check the current price list. Towels and vintage-style swimwear are available to rent.
