About Sint-Petrus-en-Pauluskerk
The Sint-Petrus-en-Pauluskerk was built between 1899 and 1908 in the neo-Gothic style by architect Louis Delacenserie. The two pointed towers, 72 meters high, rise above Ostende's rooftops and serve as a landmark for those arriving by port.
The interior has a series of colorful stained-glass windows that depict religious scenes and local history, and the high nave follows the model of medieval Gothic cathedrals.
Behind the main altar is the memorial to Luísa Maria de Orléans, the first queen of Belgium and wife of Leopoldo I. She died in Ostende in 1850, and the royal family's connection to the town explains the presence of the tomb there.
The church is close to the port and the station, making it easy to combine with arrival by train and the walk to the promenade.
