About HEY Knokke-Heist (museu)
HEY is the local history museum of Knokke-Heist, located in the former fishermen's quarter of Heist. Until 2022 it was called Sincfala, the name of an old area of channels and islands at the mouth of the Scheldt River, and it reopened under its current name in 2024 after the building's renovation.
The museum occupies a former neogothic school from 1899, with an octagonal little tower, stepped gables in the Bruges style and alternating light and dark bricks. The building is protected as heritage.
The exhibitions tell the story of the Zwin region, from Antiquity, and the hard life of Heist's fishermen and their families, with boats, tools, photographs and reconstructed interiors.
It provides a counterpoint to Knokke's elegant image and helps explain the coast's past as a fishing village. Check opening hours before you go.
