About Het Zoute
Het Zoute is the best-known neighborhood of Knokke, on the east side of the municipality. Planned from the early 20th century, it was conceived as a holiday area for wealthy families from Bruxelas, with large detached villas in gardens and curving streets among the dunes, many in Anglo-Norman style with exposed timber and steep roofs.
The Kustlaan, the avenue that runs through the neighbourhood, brings together luxury shops, cafés and restaurants. Many of Knokke's dozens of art galleries, focused on modern and contemporary art, are located on the nearby streets, which has made the town a hub of the art market in Bélgica.
On the seafront the promenade has beaches with huts and the Zoute square. Next to it is the historic golf course, the Royal Zoute Golf Club.
A visit to Het Zoute pairs well with the Zwin, which lies a few kilometres to the east.
