About Kijkuit (reserva de dunas)
The Kijkuit is a protected natural area on the west side of De Haan, between the village and the golf course. It is formed of old dunes already stabilized by vegetation, with low grassland, shrubs and small hollows.
The name means something like 'lookout': from the top of the dunes you can see the surrounding landscape and the village's towers. Trails and boardwalks cross the area and link to other dune woods of De Haan, planted in the late 19th and early 20th centuries to hold the sand.
Nearby is the dune golf course, founded in 1903 with the support of King Leopold II, one of the oldest in Belgium.
It is a peaceful walk, good for those who want to see the natural landscape of the coast beyond the beach.
