About Zeedijk e Casino de Blankenberge

The Zeedijk is the dyke-promenade that runs along Blankenberge's beach. Built to protect the town from the sea, it became the resort's main thoroughfare, with cafés, restaurants, ice-cream shops and seafront apartment buildings. Stairs lead from the promenade down to the sand.

On the seafront is Blankenberge's casino, an art-déco building constructed between 1932 and 1934 on the site of the old Kursaal, the town's first casino from 1859. Today the building houses a casino and a cultural centre, with shows and events.

In summer the Zeedijk hosts multi-seat hire bikes (the so-called beach go-carts), performances and fairs. At the end of August the Bloemencorso flower parade usually passes along it.

Walking the Zeedijk from one end to the other, from the harbour to the east of town, is the best way to feel the resort's rhythm.
