About Belgium Pier
The Belgium Pier is the symbol of Blankenberge. The town's first pier, made of cast iron in an art nouveau style, opened in 1894 and measured 350 metres—the first of that length on the European continent. At its end there was a glass-and-metal pavilion. The structure was destroyed during the First World War.
The current concrete pier was built in 1933 to a design by architect Jules Soete, in an art déco style, keeping the same length: 350 metres out to sea. At the end sits a pavilion, which has housed a ballroom and restaurant at different times and today hosts attractions and events.
Walking to the tip of the pier is the classic Blankenberge outing: from there you can see the beach, the Zeedijk promenade, the seafront buildings and, on clear days, the coast as far as Zeebrugge.
The pavilion's use and the attractions change over time; check in advance what is open and the opening hours.
