About Technopolis

Technopolis is the Flemish centre for science and technology education. It opened on 26 February 2000 as an initiative of the Flanders Technology International foundation, created by the Flemish government to bring the public closer to science.

The idea is to touch and test. There are hundreds of interactive exhibits spread across themed areas. Among the best known are the bicycle that rides on a cable 5 metres above the ground, the giant soap bubble that a child can stand inside, and the hot‑air balloon that visitors can release.

There are zones by age group, with areas for young children and others for pre‑teens, and a laboratory where simple chemistry experiments are conducted under the guidance of staff. The centre also hosts temporary exhibitions on space, health and technology.

The building is on Technologielaan, in the south of Mechelen, outside the historic centre. The visit is geared mainly to families with children, but curious adults also enjoy it.
