About MoMu

The MoMu, ModeMuseum Antwerpen, is the city's fashion museum. It was founded on September 21, 2002 and occupies the ModeNatie building on Nationalestraat, which also houses the fashion department of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp. The school trained designers who put the city on the international fashion map.

The collection originated from the historical clothing and textiles collection of the former Vrieselhof museum in Oelegem, and grew with more than 2,000 pieces from the Jacoba de Jonge collection. Today it brings together garments, accessories, lace and textiles from several centuries, as well as pieces by contemporary Belgian designers.

The museum does not have a fixed permanent exhibition: it works with temporary shows that change throughout the year, focused on a designer, a theme or a period. One of them deals with the Antwerp Six, the six Academy designers who presented together in London in the 1980s, including Dries Van Noten and Ann Demeulemeester.

The surrounding neighborhood matches the theme. Nationalestraat and the nearby streets concentrate designer shops, and Modepaleis, Dries Van Noten’s store, is about a hundred meters from the museum.
