About FOMU
The FOMU, Fotomuseum Antwerpen, is the photography museum of the province of Antwerp. The collection began with an exhibition on 125 years of photography in 1965, and with loans and archives from Agfa-Gevaert, a photographic materials company founded in the region.
Since 1986 the museum has occupied a former warehouse on the Waalsekaai in the Zuid district, expanded with a new wing designed by architect Georges Baines. A renovation in the early 2000s added about 1,400 m² of exhibition space, two cinema rooms and a studio.
The holdings include photographs, cameras and equipment, as well as a specialist library. Temporary exhibitions alternate between historical names and contemporary photographers, Belgian and international, and occupy most of the rooms.
The same building houses Cinema Lumière, dedicated to art films. The Waalsekaai is a short walk from the KMSKA, which makes the FOMU a natural stop for visitors to the museum of fine arts.

How much time to set aside
About one to one and a half hours.
Best time
Open Tuesday through Sunday; closed on Mondays. It works well on a rainy day and pairs with the KMSKA in the same afternoon. Confirm opening hours and the exhibitions before you go.
How to get there
It is on the Waalsekaai in the Zuid district, about 1.6 km south of the Grote Markt. The tram connects the city center to Zuid; on foot, the route follows Nationalestraat and passes near the MoMu.
Tip
Combine it with the KMSKA and with a walk around Zuid, a neighborhood of wide squares, cafés and galleries. Check which exhibitions are on before you go, because they occupy almost the entire museum.
