The city

What to expect from Aachen.

City of Charlemagne, in the far west of Germany, next to the borders with Belgium and the Netherlands. The cathedral, with the octagonal palatine chapel from around 800, was the first German monument inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, in 1978. Around it lie the cathedral treasury, the Gothic town hall built over the old Carolingian palace, the Centre Charlemagne and the Elisenbrunnen, from the thermal springs. It is the city of Aachener Printen.
